Course Level

This is an intermediate level course, rated at SFIA (Skills Framework for Information Age) Level 2.

Course Overview

The course is designed for candidates who are looking for an introduction to current data protection laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. Although not essential, some knowledge of data protection law would be beneficial as well as basic working knowledge or IT and GDPR.

This course is delivered by Liz Taylor and Frank Rankin over three days. Completion of the course materials equates to approximately 20hrs of study. Please see above for our upcoming course dates. We like to keep our training as interactive as possible and therefore limit our face-to-face course size to a maximum of eight attendees. This allows everyone to participate and gives us the opportunity to answer your questions throughout the course.

Supporting materials that accompany this course are available in digital and hard copy formats and we recommend you order a set of hard copy materials. There is no additional cost for this. Please note that if you order digital only, we will still require an address for your course handbook which is currently only available in hard copy.

After completion of the course, candidates will possess an understanding of the rights afforded to data subjects and the implications of those rights. Additionally, the course covers the responsibilities placed on individuals and organisations, as well as data controllers and processors. Each candidate should be better placed to support their organisation in processing customer data in compliance with data protection laws.

Please note the BCS refresh the syllabus every 6 months. You should check you have covered the current syllabus prior to sitting your assessment. https://www.bcs.org/media/6518/data-protection-foundation-syllabus.pdf

  • "The course was better than others I have been on as it was much more engaging. It was more a discussion rather than being talked at and this style of delivery works well for me". Anonymous, May 2022
